What is the mode of action of Legend® (Hyonate®) when injected per I.V.?
I.V. administered HA may stimulate receptors (CD44) on the synoviocyte by accessing the cell membrane from the vascular system (McIlwraith, 1995). This mode of action may have nothing to do with concentrations of HA in the synovial membrane or times of effectiveness. Stimulation of the receptors causes both endogenous production of HA by synoviocytes as well as a certain inhibitory effect on inflammatory cells.
